Red Lick Records - The Beginnings
When founders and original owners Ken and Ann Smith were looking for a name for their fledgling company, they shut their eyes and stuck a pin in a map of Mississippi and were delighted with the result!
The road sign is of the actual turn off on Highway 61 to Red Lick, Mississippi. It’s a very small place but it boasted one notable blues man called John Byrd who was recorded in the 1930s.
Beginning in 1980, Ken and Ann built Red Lick up from their base in North Wales and the company grew steadily in size and reputation. This was achieved by not only offering a friendly, efficient and informative service but by striving to always get the best prices for customers.
The focal point of the business was in the distribution of bi-monthly catalogues, including an unrivalled selection of new and used music and quality reviews, creating a world-wide reputation as Europe's leading blues specialists with many recommendations from customers and experts alike.
Red Lick Records - Today
Following the retirement of Ken and Ann in 2007, Red Lick was re-launched under new ownership and from a new location in Cardiff, south Wales. Continuing where Ken and Ann left off, the business remains a family owned and run concern under Tony and Julie Chilcott. With Ken and Ann still involved as consultants (and Ken as Reviews Editor), Red Lick continues to provide the same level of commitment and service as always.
